Need to give someone access to your YouTube channel without sharing your password? YouTube Studio makes it easy to add collaborators, managers, editors, or viewers with specific permissions so they can help manage your channel safely and securely.
Whether you’re working with a marketing agency, video editor, social media manager, or internal team member, here’s how to grant access to your YouTube channel.
Before you start check if your channel is a Brand Account. A YouTube Brand Account will give your channel structure, shared access, better ownership management, and most importantly, it separates your business from your personal Google account, which becomes increasingly important as your content operation grows. Use our guide on How to Turn Your YouTube Channel Into a Brand Account if you want to make the change!
Step 1: Sign In to YouTube Studio
Go to YouTube and sign in using the Google account connected to the YouTube channel you want to manage.
Once you’re logged in, click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select YouTube Studio from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Open Your Channel Settings
Inside YouTube Studio, look at the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
Click Settings, which is represented by a gear icon.
Step 3: Go to Permissions
In the Settings window, select Permissions from the menu.
This is where you can manage who has access to your YouTube channel and what level of access they have.
Step 4: Add a New User
Click Invite or Add or remove managers, depending on what appears in your account.
From there, enter the email address of the person you want to invite. Make sure the email address is connected to their Google account.
Step 5: Choose the Right Role
Next, select the appropriate permission level for the person you’re adding.
Common YouTube access roles include:
Manager
Can manage the channel, update details, upload videos, respond to comments, and handle most channel activity.
Editor
Can upload and edit videos, update channel content, and help manage publishing, but may not have full control over channel settings.
Viewer
Can view channel analytics and performance data but cannot make changes to the channel.
Choose the role that best matches what that person needs to do.
Step 6: Send the Invitation
Once you’ve entered the email address and selected the correct role, click Done and then Save to send the invitation.
The invited person will receive an email asking them to accept access to your YouTube channel.
A Quick Note
If the person you’re inviting has never used their Google account with YouTube before, they may need to create a basic YouTube profile before they can accept the invitation.
Once they accept, they’ll be able to access your channel through YouTube Studio based on the permission level you selected.
Why This Matters
Granting access through YouTube Studio keeps your channel secure. Instead of sharing passwords or login information, you can give each person the exact level of access they need, and remove that access at any time.
This is the best way to collaborate with your team, agency, or content partners while keeping your YouTube channel protected.
