Project Overview
The Challenge
Colton Dixon’s single “My Light” combines pop sensibilities with a gospel flare. The song is upbeat and full of joy, but the visuals needed to stay grounded and meaningful.
Colton and his team wanted a performance video that felt fresh and elevated. It had to be simple, beautiful, and cohesive. The goal was to let the message lead without relying on flashy effects or an overcomplicated setup.
Our Approach
The Solution
We chose to film in an old church sanctuary in Nashville, Tennessee. The space offered both spiritual depth and visual character.
Colton was positioned at a grand piano, backed by a four-person gospel choir. The setup felt natural and powerful, letting the song breathe while creating a visual that matched its tone.
For lighting, we combined natural light from the stained glass windows with outdoor lights shining in from outside. We also used a large diffuser to keep the light on Colton’s face soft and even. The result was a warm, balanced atmosphere across every shot.
To add smooth visual energy, we used a steadicam rig. This allowed the camera to flow gently through the space, keeping the movement cinematic and intentional while honoring the stillness of Colton’s seated performance.
